OUR FOUR FOUNDING PRINCIPLES
Delta Upsilon frames everything we do around our Four Founding Principles. We seek men of character who promote friendship and well-being, who recognize and celebrate what makes each person unique, and who are committed to the advancement of justice.
The Promotion of FRIENDSHIP
We believe the friendships made during our college years can be as valuable as the degree we earn. Friendships help us grow personally and socially. Delta Upsilon encourages its members to develop lasting friendships, not only with their brothers, but also with people of differing ethnicities and opinions.
The Development of CHARACTER
A man’s character is defined by his values. Every man who joins our fraternity takes a non-secret oath that commits him to a clearly defined set of values. A DU holds himself and his brothers accountable to that oath. Accountability, self-exploration and character development help us to become the best version of ourselves.
The Diffusion of LIBERAL CULTURE
We believe every member should strive to experience and learn about the world around him, and then share their experiences with others. We encourage our members to be open minded and willing to engage in constructive conversations that advance their understanding of each other, the world we all live in, and how to bridge our differences to the mutual benefit of society.
The Advancement of JUSTICE
In forming the first non-secret social fraternity in 1834, our founders took a stand against the injustices of secret organizations. We remain committed to advancing justice and to being a force for change in our communities and the world. No matter the era, appreciation for the value of each person and what it takes to support each other, will always be necessary for growth and prosperity.
